Estates
If someone close to you has died then generally, a solicitor will need to be involved to assist with the administration of his or her estate. This is the process where the deceased's assets are sold and /or distributed to his or her beneficiaries. The first step is to establish whether the deceased had a valid Will, and if so, where the original is stored and who the Trustees / Executors are.
Once this has been ascertained the Trustees / Executors will then more than likely need to apply for Probate of the estate. If this is the first time that you have been involved in the administration of an estate then no doubt this will be a confusing and upsetting time. The staff at Tripp Rolleston & Co, will be able to guide you through the process and ensure all the legal requirements are met. If someone close to you has died recently and you wish to discuss your obligations then please give us a call and we will be happy to help you. Please see attached further information from the New Zealand Law Society on the process – “Making a Will & Estate Administration” |
