Our History

The origins of Tripp Rolleston & Co date back to 1891 when Mr C Howard Tripp set up his practice as a barrister and solicitor in Timaru.  He was born at Mt Peel in 1859 and, after completing his primary and secondary education, he obtained his law degree from Cambridge University, England.  After graduating he was called to the Bar at the Inner Temple, London. He then returned to set up practice in Timaru.

He was subsequently joined in his practice by Mr F J Rolleston and the firm Tripp Rolleston & Co was then formed.  Frank Rolleston’s subsequent achievements included serving two terms as the Timaru electorate member of parliament for the Reform Party during which time he was the Minister of Defence, Minister of Justice and Attorney General.  He was also mayor of Timaru from 1921 to 1923.

Subsequently Tripp Rolleston & Co has had only five individuals as partners of the firm.  Currently the firm is led by Peter Hutt who is operating it as a sole practice.

The firm specialises in conveyancing (rural, urban and commercial), wills, trusts, estates, powers of attorney and relationship property.
